Swim Team Captain’s Job Descriptions
Being a
team captain is an honor. Your peers have selected you to help lead the team
and you are expected to live up to that expectation. You will work with the
coaches and set good examples of work ethics and team building, along with
making this experience fun for you and others on the team.
EXPECTATIONS:
- Be
a leader and model team spirit.

Attend mandatory meeting with coaches every two weeks or as needed

Design or help with shirt design. Distribute them when they come in.

Uniformly support team spirit activities – spaghetti feeds, team dress, meet
support, swimmer of the week, secret swimmer, etc.
-
Share responsibilities for work at meets (clean-up), Banquet.

Delegate work and encourage all team members to participate.
AT
MEETS:
-
Help clean up our area.
-
Lead team stretches and warm up.
-
Lead by example to be at the end of the lane cheering ALL swimmers of ALL
teams. Encourage others on the team to do so as well.
-
You should encourage everyone when they are done racing to do a cool down
and preferably do it with them.
-
Arrange and present tokens of appreciation (card from team, etc) for
officials at each meet.
-
Organize team cheer at each meet.
PRACTICES:
-
Set a good example by following the workout with a positive “animal”
attitude. Be at all practices and races unless you notify the coaches of
your absences.
-
Talk about upcoming races and other new information, ideas. Get a feel for
what the team's interests and needs are.
-
Help where needed by coaches.
-
Lead team in push ups and crunches.
-
Ensure equipment and ropes are put away at the end of practice.
BANQUET:
-
Decide a theme for the banquet.
-
Meet with parents to coordinate and see what they need to do to help.

Help with decorations or where needed.
TEAM
SPIRIT:
-
Organize community service activity for team – Assist with volunteer sign up

Help plan team fun days – relays, scavenger hunts, etc.

Organize secret swimmer.
- Do
Silly Awards for every athlete (optional). These can be presented at the
last practice of the season.

Organize and present swimmer of the week awards.
